Costs of Divorce //

How much does it cost total?

Our price of $150 is based on your spouse cooperating and signing and returning the paperwork.  It also does not include the court costs, which in North Carolina are $225. All counties charge an extra $25 to include allowing you to return to using your maiden name. So if your spouse signs voluntarily, $375 is your total cost without a name change, $400 with a name change.

North Carolina does offer a waiver of the court costs if you cannot afford them. For more information on that, click HERE. We prepare and file that document for you and charge a $25 fee. So if you can get the court costs waived, you pay a total of $175.

If your spouse will not cooperate, things can start getting a lot more expensive.  For more information about a spouse who won't cooperate or a spouse who is missing, click HERE.

Call us to discuss what those extra fees might be; there are too many variables to give a quick answer here. It can be as low as an extra $50, but in extreme cases where we have to run an ad in the paper, it will be an extra $600.
